Scott Liles is the president and CPIO (Chief Pet Insurance Officer) for Nationwide. He commented on the way that the result of the competition reflects upon the pet owner. The wacky pet names highlight the creativity and thought the owners put into naming their furry family members.
Our dogs hold a special place in our hearts. Sometimes, we choose funny names just for laughs. However, many hilarious names carry a special meaning or even a story behind the name.
Once, we owned a wonderful smooth-coat St. Bernard whose registered name was Healy’s Belle of the Ball. However, her nickname was “Stripper”. Of note, she was an adult when she joined our family and already named.
We just did not have the heart to make her adjust to a new name. On the other hand, it was a little embarrassing when we had to call her name in public. She would only respond when called “Stripper”.
Our beloved Appaloosa stallion was called “Little Joe” by the family. However, his registered name followed the tradition of incorporating something of his parents’ heritage. His more formal name was “Don’t Skip the Chocolate”. Yes, there was a story behind the selection.
In the same vein, our family has always enjoyed running across an unusual human name as well. Over the years, we have accumulated quite a list. Currently at the top of that list are the following.
- Buttress B. Waddlesbottom
- Norman Rustworth Ramston, III
- Ima Hogg
