The stolen Boston Terrier

The Soto family was enjoying the holiday lights show at Jellystone Park in Caledonia when their Boston Terrier, Bruno, was abducted. The family searched frantically but came up empty. Desperate to bring him home, they offered a $4,000 reward for his safe return.
According to Jamie Soto, the family’s matriarch, her son had stepped away from their Land Rover to retrieve something during the show — not realizing he left the keys inside. Bruno was resting in the car at the time. Within moments, an opportunistic thief stole the vehicle — and, unknowingly, Bruno along with it.
The thief’s focus may have been the car, but for the Sotos, it was all about Bruno. The playful pup wasn’t just a pet — he was part of the family and a vital source of comfort for Jamie’s son, who relied on him to manage anxiety. The two were inseparable. Losing him shattered their hearts.
“That night, my son didn’t sleep at all,” Jamie recalled. “He kept asking if Bruno was cold or scared. As a mother, it broke my heart to see him hurting.”
Bruno is reunited with his beloved family
Days later, hope finally arrived. Jamie’s green Land Rover was spotted in southern Milwaukee, though Bruno was nowhere inside. The discovery reignited the search — and then, the miracle call came.
A kind stranger reported a small black-and-white dog tied up in Kozi Park, also in southern Milwaukee. The Soto family raced to the location and, to their overwhelming relief, found Bruno safe and waiting for them.
The reunion was emotional. Bruno sprinted into his family’s arms, tail wagging, showering them with kisses. It was a Christmas gift they would never forget — proof that love and hope can outlast even the darkest moments.
Once home, Bruno received a clean bill of health from his veterinarian. Though exhausted, he was unharmed. The Sotos say they’ll be forever grateful to the community that helped bring their family back together.
A happy ending — and an important reminder
Bruno’s story ended joyfully, but it highlights a growing problem: pet theft during busy public events. Experts encourage owners to microchip their pets, keep vehicles locked at all times, and never leave animals unattended — even briefly. The Sotos hope their ordeal inspires others to take extra precautions.
As for Bruno, he’s right where he belongs — curled up beside his best friend, enjoying life and extra treats under the Christmas tree.
