Try Adding a Bit of Training

Walking with your dog can be a lot more fun if you add in some exciting games that can double as training for your dog. During your usual walk, you can start practicing some simple commands like sit, stay, and rollover.

You can also try some simple obedience training for your dog. If your dog hasn’t yet been taught any of these basic exercises, you can always begin with the most fundamental ones.

Teaching your dog to sit and stay is important

When you’re outside, your dog’s attention can easily be distracted by all the different things going on around you. All the various sights, smells, sounds, and faces around them will inevitably make them curious. Training them outside at different locations during your walk will significantly help your dog to improve his control over his impulses.

Your dog’s focus can also be enhanced depending on what type of training you blend in with your walks.

Carry Tasty Dog treats With you

You can make the typical walk with your dog a lot more fun when you bring some delicious treats and snacks for your canine companion.  Incorporate this as a reward system for the dog training routines you are building into your dog walks.

Every time they do good in their training, you can feed them some of the tasty dog treats that you brought along. You can play some quick games with your dog using treats as well.

Toss some of the treats and let your dog look for them. You will be helping your dog improve its tracking ability. This is also a good form of mental exercise.

Change Up Your Pacing To Make Walking Your Dog More Fun

To revitalize your dog walking experience, you can switch up your walking pace.  Instead of just walking with your dog at a constant speed,  speed up your pace into a jog. Your dog will inevitably follow the pace you’re giving them, and this will add a lot of fun to both you and your dog’s experience. It will also provide a better physical workout for both of you.

Also, try alternating your pace without a definite pattern. For example, walk very slowly at first before suddenly running very fast and then go back to a slow walk once again. Altering your pace will add a whole new dynamic to your dog walks.

Walking with your best friend is good for both of you, physically and emotionally. It can be lots of fun as well. Take advantage of this opportunity to bond and become even better buddies. Not everyone is as lucky as you are to have each other.
