Jason was between deliveries, and as he focused on driving safely, he was shocked by what he watched happen right in front of him. The driver in the car in front of him suddenly stopped, rolled down his window, threw something in the road, and quickly took off.
The UPS driver could barely believe his eyes! Never before had he seen such abuse in his life. A small puppy had been thrown from the car into the oncoming traffic! He knew he should try to get the license number to report him, but saving the puppy came first.

Jason Jumped Into Action
Jason jumped from the UPS truck and snatched the puppy from the oncoming traffic into the safety of his arms. It was a busy street, so Jason knew the puppy could easily have been killed if he did not act quickly.
The fame that goes with the media reporting “Heroic UPS Driver Saves Puppy” never crossed his mind. All Jason thought about was saving the puppy’s life.
Once The Terrified Puppy Was Safely In His Arms, Jason Made a Decision
Once the pup was safely in the truck, He headed straight for the nearest police department to file a report about the abusive driver. The Hughson Police posted the story on Facebook.
Although they wished Jason had been able to obtain the license plate number, they were happy he chose to save the puppy instead. If he had not quickly rescued the puppy, it would have dashed into the oncoming traffic.

“Heroic UPS Driver Saved Puppy” Fame Was not On His Mind
When Jason shared his story with the police department, he did not give them his name. He was not looking for attention or recognition. Our hero only wanted to be sure that the puppy he saved would be protected until placed with a loving family.
However, once the police department shared the story of the daring rescue on Facebook with a photo of the puppy’s rescuer, Jason’s secret was out. His coworkers recognized him and were quick to comment.

Jason’s supervisor at UPS, Jessica Lafferty, was quick to inform the reporter at the Modesto Bee what a great guy our hero is. She called him “a very good guy” and said they were all very proud of him.
What Happened Next?
Jason was relieved that the community has an excellent facility that takes care of animals in need. The cheerful puppy, none the worse for wear, was in good spirits in spite of his close call.
The puppy was released into the safe and loving hands of the local animal services organization. The Stanislaus County Animal Shelter provides excellent care for animals as they wait for adoption into loving, forever homes.
Jason found himself in a risky situation but took the risk and saved the life of an abused puppy. It is both our hope and prayer that this sweet puppy will find a wonderful home in a very short time. He has been through enough in his young life and deserves a loving family.

Jason did not begin his day thinking he would be labeled a hero before the day was over. He was not thinking of being a hero when he jumped from his truck.
