In 2015, Ohio citizens, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Pizio, adopted a precious dog named Lucy. They both became quite attached to Lucy very quickly. Sadly, it was only a year later when Nick and his wife no longer wished to remain married. Although they no longer loved one another, they both still loved Lucy. Obviously, Lucy could not be with both of them at once, so it was decided that Lucy would remain with Nick’s wife. Thinking that Lucy was settled in with his ex-wife, Nick never imagined that he would later be known as the “man reunited with his dog in a pet store”.
How Nick Went From Unknown to the “Man Reunited With His Dog in a Pet Store”
Once the divorce was final, the two lost touch. This fact meant that Nick also lost touch with Lucy. Although he missed his spunky, fun-loving canine buddy, there was nothing he could do about it. Eventually, Nick came to terms with the reality that he would never see Lucy again. She was lost to him forever. This acceptance of the inevitable made it even more shocking when he would later be reunited with his dog in a pet store.
The Fairy Tale Begins With A Facebook Post!
Just by chance, Nick ran across the announcement on Facebook that an animal welfare group would soon be hosting adoption events. These adoption events were to take place in dog-friendly public places.
Shopping centers and pet stores were thought to be ideal places for these dog-to-human meetups. Dogs needing to be adopted were to be introduced to people interested in adopting a dog. The dogs at each event would be pre-approved for adoption. It never crossed his mind that he would be a man reunited with his dog in a pet store
A Picture is Worth A Thousand Words
Amazingly, one of the photos announcing the events featured a dog that was the “spitting image” of his thought to be lost dog, Lucy. Nick’s current SO (significant other), Shannon, was just as eager to attend one of these events as was Nick.
They knew the odds of this dog being Lucy were very practically non-existent. But they had to know, one way or another if the dog in the photo was Lucy or not. Nick could not rest without knowing if Lucy was out there in search of a forever home. The thought of Lucy being homeless was too painful for Nick to imagine, especially if he could do something about it.
The Moment of Truth Approaches: Will the Dog in the Photo Be Lucy?
The next adoption event was scheduled to take place in a pet shop, and both Shannon and Nick were eager to attend, hoping the Lucy-lookalike would still be available. On the day of the event, the two rushed into the pet store with worried looks on their faces. They could not relax until they knew if Lucy was there or not.
With Baited Breath, Nick and Shannon Approached the Dogs
As Shannon and Nick approached the area where the dogs were waiting in crates, Nick caught his breath and froze into place. There was no doubt in Nick’s mind. This dog was not a Lucy-Look-a-Like; this dog WAS LUCY!
It was clear that Lucy immediately recognized Nick as well. Lucy began to wag her tail and to jump up and down like crazy.
As Nick approached the crate, Lucy pushed her muzzle to the bars trying to reach him. The moment they opened the crate, Lucy rushed to Nick, dropped to his feet, and rolled belly up to be scratched.
No Longer Any Doubt if This Was Lucy or Not
If any of them had any doubt whatsoever about this dog being Nick’s Lucy, those doubts were crushed right then. Although Nick and Shannon had just gotten together and she had already brought a dog into the family, Nick knew that he wanted to give Lucy her Forever Home. He immediately completed the application for adoption.
A New Family is Born
Today, the happy family is comprised of Nick, Shannon, Lucy, and Kuma, a Husky. It only took one week for Lucy to settle into the family. Nick can’t find the words to fully explain how thrilled he is that he viewed the Facebook announcement in time to reunite with Lucy.
Can you imagine what the chances were for him to have seen this one of many million posts on Facebook every day???
This happy-ever-after ending is almost like a fairy tale, isn’t it? There is no doubt in my mind that Nick will do everything in his power to make sure that he is never separated from Lucy again.
