Mom Makes A Frantic 911 Call
Earlier this week, the mother of a 3-year-old child made a frantic 911 call to the Telecommunication Center of the Suwannee County’s Sheriff’s Office. Her son wandered off from his siblings when they were playing outside of their home. Mom makes a frantic 911 call that starts the rescue mission that will locate her son.
The terrified mom reported that Buddy, the canine member of their family was also missing. It was assumed that the dog had wandered off with the child
There was a rapid response from the Investigators and Patrol Deputies from the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office. The K9 units responded to the residence as well and were quickly searching the surrounding wooded area.
A Second Frantic 911 Call Is Made
This time, the call was from a neighbor of the missing 3-year-old boy. He had located the child in the woods but he was not alone. The boy was being carefully guarded by his faithful canine companion.
Although the neighbor wanted to immediately take the boy to his frantic mother, he could not do so. The protective dog would not allow the neighbor to touch the child. He could not get near the boy.
Frantic 911 Calls Led to A Rescue
The result of the 911 calls led to the ultimate rescue of the little boy. An alert neighbor and the rapid response of the Officers and their K9 team all contributed to his rescue. However, the real hero of this story is the boy’s furry friend and protector, Buddy.
More About the Real Hero of The Day
Buddy is a Pit Bull Terrier. This detail was down-played throughout the media. So often, when a Pit Bull is in the news, it is not for a positive reason. This time, however, he is a hero and we need to recognize that fact.
A Similar Story of Heroism
A number of years ago, we gave a Saint Bernard puppy to our precious little niece. They were inseparable. As kids are liable to do, she slipped out of the house when her mother was taking a very brief bathroom break. Luckily, her puppy never left her side so he slipped out with her.
Immediately upon realizing that her toddler was not in the house, my sister made a quick survey of the yard and neighborhood. Quickly, a full-scale search was on the tiny little girl. Soon, one of the searchers called out. He had found her!!
In a field of high grass in an adjoining field, he saw both her and her puppy. As he approached, the fluffy Saint Bernard puppy barked at the neighbor. No matter which way he approached them, the puppy would place his body between the two humans. He would not allow the neighbor to touch the child.
Mom To The Rescue
It only took a few minutes for her mother to arrive on the scene. Both puppy and child were happy to see their Mom. You can probably imagine how thrilled she was to see they were both safe.
This puppy was only a few months old and his genetic trait for rescuing and protecting humans had already kicked in. This is what everyone was saying. While this may very well be true, it was more than that. They had a strong, loving bond that I think is there between any breed of dog and their human companion.
What Do You Think?
Does the breed of dog who rescues a human play a major role? Is it more their DNA or their LOVE for their human that causes a dog to protect and rescue a person? Be sure to tell us what you think in the comment box.
