Musicians Adopt Musical Dog From Korea

Susan Sloan June 8, 2021

How a couple of musicians in New York ended up adopting a rescue dog from Busan, Korea is a very interesting story.  Birks was a homeless dog that was rescued by a very kind woman who found him and took him into her home.

Birks was an emaciated, dirty and sad looking dog that was wandering around near her property when she saw him.  She took him in to feed him and to clean him up in hope of finding him a home.

It was never her intention to adopt Birks herself. She made every effort to find a local family to adopt him but was unsuccessful. Fortunately, there was a rescue program that was willing to take on the challeng of finding Birks a home. This program took the dog all the way to New York to meet his foster family.

Musical Dog For A Musical Family

Mikaela and David are musicians who wanted to adopt a dog. Like many people, they used social media to assist them in their search. While scrolling through various posts on dogs, they ran across a video of someone playing a clarinet and accompanied by a singing dog.

Neither of them had ever seen a dog that loved music. They could hardly wait to get in touch with the clarinet player. The clarinetist happened to be Birks foster parent and he was the singing dog!

They learned that Birks loved listening to music. And, apparently, he also loved to sing along on occasion. Mikaela and David were convinced that “it was fate” that led them to Birks.

After a very short discussion, they  adopted Birks. How could they miss the rare  pass opportunity to adopt a musical dog ? It was only a few days later that the Korean dog that loved music became a member of their family and movd into their home.

Birks Sings Along

On the first day 0f Birks’ life as a member of the musical family, they welcomed him by playing an album they really enjoyed. Evidently, Birks did as well. He became very alert and appeared to be mesmerized by the music. He sang along with the parts he liked the best.

Birks frequently sings along with Mikaela when she sings as well. There are times that it appears he is in competition with her as he sings at a higher pitch and louder than she does. Birks also enjoys listening to David play the piano and sits closely by when he plays.

Birks was a perfect fit for this family and they are so happy they chose to adopt him.
