In the first post of this series, we introduced you to Stanley Coren, a well-respected canine psychologist. Now, in The World’s Smartest Dog Breeds Part 3, we continue to share his findings. The list is in ascending order of intelligence.
Basically, Coren wrote a book in which he explains what he learned from his study. He shares the results of when he tested many breeds of dogs for their degree of intelligence.
According to this canine psychologist, there is a way to determine which dog breeds are the most intelligent. Now, this third post in the series reveals the next five dogs on the list of canine Einsteins. Will your dog’s breed be on this list?
Two Components Make Up The Canine IQ
1. speed with which the dog learns new commands
2. degree of obedience demonstrated by the dog
Coren tells us that the most intelligent of the breeds may take up to 5 seconds to learn each of the new commands. Additionally, Coren also informs us that the brightest breeds obey those new commands to a greater degree than those breeds not making the list. According to Coren, the breeds with the highest intelligence levels demonstrated obedience 95% of the time.
Here Is The World’s Smartest Dog Breeds List Part 3 for Your Perusal
#54 Greyhound
Famous for its speed, agility, and gracefulness the Greyhound is a terrific athlete. These dogs run at top-notch speeds on the dog racing tracks. Amazingly, they have been clocked at running 40 mph.
Many Greyhounds have been adopted once their racing careers ended. Fortunately, many people have welcomed them into their homes as a canine member of their family.
These very gentle yet athletic dogs also have a reputation for being highly intelligent. Greyhounds can easily outsmart their new family members and, if they choose to run, have the speed to get away.
#53 American Foxhound
This breed is named appropriately as its ancestors came to the United States Colonies in 1650. History tells us that President George Washington owned a pack of American Foxhounds.
Incredibly sweet and very loyal, they are also known to have a keen sense of smell. Their trainers took advantage of their intelligence and ability to track prey by scent when training them for the fox hunt.
#53 Bichon-Frise
It is easy to underestimate this cute little dog that resembles a fluffy ball of fuzz that would blow away with a gentle puff of wind. The Bichon-Frise is a very intelligent breed and they are known to use their wit to outsmart their human family members.
Being so friendly and playful, it is hard to hold their antics against them. They require a good deal of exercise to expend their high levels of energy.
# 52 Siberian Husky
This extremely intelligent breed of dog must have an alpha (strict) human to control him. The Siberian Husky is capable of figuring out on his own how to tunnel under or leap over a fence to chase an interesting scent or simply to escape his environment.
However, just because they understand a command does not mean that they will obey it. They appear to have a tendency for selective hearing. Intelligent and a little bit stubborn, they can be a challenge to train if you do not have the patience to persevere.
# 50 Pointer
