Dogs are extremely easy to please. This is a useful fact to know if you happen to need something from them. You may bribe them with any of the following: (1) food, (2) playtime, or (3) toys. This video captures when a Beagle gets lots of squeaky toys and it is quite entertaining.
I happen to have known a lot of dogs who have been crazy over toys. They especially love it when you give them squeaky toys.
So, if you’d like to make your dog happy, aside from showering them with lots of love, good food and exercise, gift them with toys. I assure you, they can never have enough, no matter how old or young they are.
Introducing Maymo, as the Beagle Gets Lots Of Squeaky Toys
For example, Maymo, a Beagle, is pretty much just like any other dog. However, he is more than just a little bit obsessed with all sorts of toys. But he is one of those lucky dogs who has lots and lots of toys to entertain him whenever he plays. One day, Maymo’s owner decided to prank his beagle with many squeaking toys.
At first, he gave Maymo a squeaking toy – a tiny yellow duck. Playing with that duck was very amusing for Maymo. It squeaked whenever he put a bit of pressure on it! And the squeaking sounds made him want to play with the duck even more.
But, Maymo’s owner didn’t stop there. Soon after he gave the dog the duck, he poured about an hundred of these tiny squeaking ducks on Maymo’s bed! It must have been Maymo’s first time to see so many squeaking ducks in one place, plus, it’s all his!
Maymo’s reaction was as you might expect Never had he seen anything like it in his entire life! He was amazed, to say the least. But wait! There’s more! Maymo’s owner still wasn’t done with the surprises just yet! The biggest surprise of them all was yet to unfold.
While Maymo was busy trying to decide which duck to play with first, a giant balloon duck came floating into the room. It looked the same as the tiny plastic ducks –other than that it was full of air, and it was much, much bigger!
Imagine Maymo’s reaction upon seeing the humongous duck! Or you can watch the whole thing by playing the video below:
Curious dogs make funny and entertaining pets.
Curiosity in animals, as in humans, is often tied to its level of intelligence. Stanley Cohen, PhD, neuro-psychologist who wrote The Intelligence of Dogs, studied the trainability of canines as a marker of their intelligence.
He determined that certain inherent qualities helped to define which breeds were most intelligent. These qualities, or traits, include the ability to follow commands, judgment, and eagerness to work or to please their owners/trainers.
Curious dogs are usually smart dogs as well.
Cohen studied over 110 breeds that were found by obedience trial judges to the on their list of “top” dogs. He found out that the most intelligent breeds obeyed new commands 95% of the time and understood those new commands after five or fewer repeats. You might be surprised at the breeds that made the list!
In order:
- Border Collie
- Poodle
- German Shepherd
- Golden Retriever
- Doberman Pinscher
- Shetland Sheepdog
- Labrador Retriever
- Papillon
- Rottweiler
- Bloodhound
- Australian Cattle Dog
Remember that with the good also comes the not so good and, sometimes, the downright, bad. Dogs are social creatures and need both mental and physical activity to be their happiest.
The more intelligent and curious breeds are even more likely to become bored and get into trouble if not given the mental and physical activity they need. Look for the upcoming article on how to prevent boredom from becoming a problem for you and your dog.
