Gender reveal parties have been a rising trend ever since the use of social media boomed. Expecting couples would think of the funniest or craziest gimmick. Then they record everything on video or capture it all on camera.
Next, they would upload it online for the whole world to see. They were eager to share their joy with their friends. It is amazing how this technology has allowed us to share other people’s joy. This now includes welcoming their babies to the world, whether human or puppy.
WILL IT BE A BOY OR WILL IT BE A GIRL?
Paul Callahan and his girlfriend, Lily Denesha, decided to jump on this hype train. However, they did it with a bit of a twist. They posted a fake pregnancy and gender reveal. Then, instead of a baby, they announced their puppy adoption to the whole world.
Getting in on the fun of a gender reveal
Paul and Lily hired Claire McPhilomy, a professional photographer, to make it more believable. As a dog lover herself, Claire immediately said yes out of excitement. When she received Lily’s message about their crazy plan, she immediately agreed to play along.
The couple admits that they are not yet ready to have human kids. But, they were surely interested in adopting a puppy. Paul and Lily were already foster parents to kittens and rabbits. However, after bonding with their friend’s Shibu Inu, they fell in love with that breed.
When they heard about a three-month-old Shiba Inu ready for adoption, they immediately jumped on the chance. They quickly named the puppy Percy.
Putting on quite a show:
The couple and Claire even had props ready for the photoshoot. It was a fun but also a very difficult shoot. Percy was so excited to be with Paul and Lily that he kept running around the place, making each shot a challenge.
The team had to lure the dog with turkey and get his attention with some bells just to get him to focus on them. These tricks served them well and they were able to capture some amazing photos.
Ever since Lily uploaded the photos online, people have been commenting and messaging her on their funny and crazy idea. As of now, her post has gone viral with over 16,000 likes.

ADOPTING A PUPPY CAN BE A LIFE CHANGING EVENT
Puppies or dogs of any age can be adopted from many places. Whether from an individual, shelter, breed rescue/foster center or animal shelter, canines of all ages are waiting for adoption into their forever home. You may actually be saving a dog from abuse, abandonment or even the threat of being euthanized. Giving them a life of comfort and safety while receiving their unconditional love and adoration. What a deal!! Truly a win-win situation for both of you!
How to go about selecting a dog for you and your family isn’t rocket science but there are a few important things to consider.
- What breed would be best for your personality, lifestyle, living situation, activity level, time constraints? A little research online or via books and magazines will go along way to guide you. Attending a dog show and chatting with owners about their dogs will give you first hand knowledge on topics that may not be covered in print. You can also see the breed in the flesh/fur and see how the interact with people. The size of the giant breeds may seem even larger in person.
- Visit your local shelter. Check out the available canines on their website first. Knowing about any special needs as well as their personalities before seeing them can be very helpful. If there are any that truly would not fit into your home for any reason, don’t let yourself of your kids fall in love with them. Many shelters have profiles on each animal, detailing any known issues that might e of concern or special interest.
- Make your wishes clear and known to others. Many shelters and breed rescue groups keep a file on potential adoptive “pet parents”. Being on file as looking for a certain breed, sex, age, etc. may give you an edge, especially if looking for a rare breed.. Certain breeds and ages are more sought after than others so take the few minutes needed to fill out the forms if this is an option.
- Contact your local breed rescue. If you are only interested in one breed, contact a breeder or the breed rescue group to get on their call list. Find out what their adoption requirements are before agreeing to Foster a dog. Some people foster several dogs before deciding to actually adopt one. Some fall in love with the first one they take into their home.
- Can you afford to own a dog? This is a vitally important question to ask yourself. https://happymutt.org/can-you-afford-to-own-a-dog/
Drago was a small puppy when Emma Grace fell in love with him. He is now her greatest fan and if not sleeping in her room at night, he is found lying outside her door in protector mode. Here, she is taking a nap and he found a way to stay close beside her in guard dog mode.
