Sadly, the few koalas remaining in Australia are now in even greater danger of becoming extinct. Thankfully, a Koala sniffing pup helps rescue his fellow Australian creatures.
Devastating bush fires have recently ravaged Australia. The fires have killed hundreds of thousands of animals and left many others homeless.
Heroically, thousands of brave, volunteer firefighters risked their lives to stop the catastrophic events. However, unanticipated help also came from another kind of hero.
Who Is Bear and What Makes Him So Special?
This koala sniffing canine is Bear, a cross between a Kooli and a Border Collie. He has the reputation of being a one-of-a-kind “Koala-sniffer”. Bear has served in the fire-affected areas of both Queensland and New South Wales.
They attempted to minimize the damage done to his paws by covering them with protective socks. Can you imagine what a sight Bear must make? A Koala sniffing pup who helps rescue his fellow furry creatures is not a common sight.
Fortunately, you do not have to imagine what he looks like. A well-known animal charity in Australia is known as the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW). They graciously shared photos of the heroic dog in action.
What is the “Back-Story” on Bear?
Bear’s previous owner abandoned him because he did not like to play. Afterward, a true dog lover rescued Bear. Eventually, the pup was taken to Sunshine Coast University.
This is where he learned how to locate koalas. Ultimately. he was trained to use his very sensitive nose in all sorts of situations.
What Does The Future Hold?
The Brisbane Times quoted Josey Sharrada, who campaigns for IFAW. Sharrada said the following. “Now, more than ever, saving individual koalas is critical. With such an intense start to the bushfire season, it will be many weeks and months before some of these fires are out. All the while, wildlife will continue to need to be rescued and treated, and might remain in care for some time.”
For now, you can see many heartbreaking photos of rescued koalas and kangaroos as they are being widely shared. Various social media platforms have photos of such scenes.
In conclusion, it appears that several people set fires that caused incredible damage and loss of life. Regrettably, it will be decades before much of the damage will be overcome.
