When someone goes about their day, they don’t expect to suddenly become a rescuer of puppies. However, for Elisa, her life took an unexpected turn when she saw an abandoned puppy for the first time in her newly adopted country of Romania. Before long, her entire backyard was filled with rescued dogs.
Elisa was on the way to the veterinarian when she first passed by puppies who were running wild on the road. She couldn’t leave them in potential danger, so she put them inside her vehicle and continued her day.
The next day, she encountered the same scenario again. This soon became a daily occurrence. Elisa lives in an area where it’s common to see abandoned puppies.
She soon memorized every dedicated dumping site for dogs. Going to those areas and picking up dogs became a significant part of her life.
From Blueberry Farmer to Rescuer of Puppies
Elisa and her husband moved to Romania from the United Kingdom to start a blueberry farm. Rescuing puppies became their second job due to the country’s dog abandonment problem.
Neutering dogs is not a common practice in Romania so the number of homeless dogs is sky-high. Elisa rescued puppies virtually every day! It did not take long for the number of dogs living with them was quite high!
The couple built several enclosures within the limits of their property boundaries to accommodate hundreds of dogs. They knew this was necessary if they wanted to keep living there. Not many people in their situation would have done the same thing.
Elisa and her husband have saved over 400 dogs since they moved to Romania. Most of the rescued dogs are now living in the United Kingdom where they were sent for adoption.
Thankfully, there are many dog lovers residing in the UK who are willing to adopt homeless dogs. They do not care about the nationality of the dogs in need of a home.
Elisa’s service toward the many dogs in need is undoubtedly laborious, especially for someone farming in a new country. Elisa has a lot on her plate, but she has never failed any of her rescued dogs.
For her, seeing them go to good homes makes all the expense and hard work worth it. We need more people like Elisa and her husband, don’t we?
