A Good Samaritan by the name of Carey Linnell contacted the animal rescue group called Hope For Paws about a homeless German Shepherd she spotted in her neighborhood. She told the rescuers that she tried to capture the dog but it screamed every time she tried to get close. Was it due to pain or fear?
She thought it was injured so she decided to call for help instead of taking more time for the dog to trust her.Without hesitations, lead rescuers Eldad and Loreta headed out to help save the dog.
They agreed to meet Carey on-site, and together, they began their work. They considered it would be a challenging rescue whether the problem was due to pain or fear. Either way, they took one step at a time in order to ensure a successful mission.
Whether due to pain or fear, the dog was terrified and the rescue would be a challenge!
Neighbors who were present at the time informed the rescuers that the dog first appeared in the area several days back. Since day one, the dog hid under the parked van and refused to step out. No matter what people did to help, she just didn’t budge.
Loreta approached the pup slowly and offered it a cheeseburger. She was finally able to get close enough and when she tried to gently pat it, the dog screamed like a human. She and Eldad thought it was badly hurt, but with no visible injuries at all, they figured out it cried because it was terrified.
At the first attempt, the rescuer failed to secure the dog. The terrified animal walked away and hid in a small gap between two containers. It seemed the perfect hiding spot but it also gave Loreta another opportunity to catch the pup. And this time, she successfully looped the snare on its neck. Loreta immediately named the rescued dog Rain.
Poor Rain feared humans so much that she felt the need to vocalize her despair. But once she realized she was safe, instead of screaming, she gravitated toward Carey. She appeared to be thanking her for calling the rescuers.
At the hospital, Rain relaxed and enjoyed a spa treatment care of Loreta. Later on, she continued to her foster home but she didn’t stay long because her adoptive family finally came and took her home.
Her new mom, Allison Dunbar, welcomed Rain to the family and renamed her Sassy Pants. Unlike before, she no longer feared humans. In fact, she couldn’t get enough of them and demanded to cuddle with them all day long.
