The ASPCA, in a compassionate response to the SARSCoV2 Pandemic, has launched a significant initiative to support organizations that support the welfare of animals. Further, they have extended their actions to include dog owners whose lives have been impacted by this virus as well. Coming together in this time of need, they have organized the distribution of pet food across the country.
Four of the cities to benefit from this initiative are Asheville, North Carolina, Miami, Florida, Los Angeles, California, and New York City. Since the most recent launch was in NYC, we will share some photos of this event throughout this article.
Others Are Also Coming Together In This Time of Need
The ASPCA depends, in part, on the support of various organizations across our country. Without the generosity of these companies, the needs of many animals remain unmet. Thankfully, organizations such as Blue Buffalo, PetSmart Charities, and Petco Foundation contributed massive amounts of food. Because of this, the distribution centers quickly became operational, and the urgent needs of the communities were met.
Dedicated and hard-working staff from ASPCA distributed food to the five boroughs on NYC on an appointment-only basis. The guidelines for social distancing designed to protect the clients and the employees were fully honored. The safety and health of all involved were high priorities at all times.
One Example of Americans Coming Together to Help One Another
Denise Ortega, once a probation officer now living in Manhattan, and her furry friends were beneficiaries of those coming together in this time of need. Two canine companions, Sophia and Shakira, depend upon Denise for their daily meals as do two cats who live in their community.
While browsing over her Facebook page, Denise noticed a promotion by the ASPCA for free pet food scheduled for the next day. She scheduled an appointment to pick up food for her dogs. At the appointed time, she made her way to the delivery spot via the local bus.
When she arrived, the ASPCA was dispensing food from a large box truck. Denise was given a bag of food for her dogs. They also scheduled an appointment for another day to pick up food for the cats as well. Denise admitted that she was nearly out of food for the animals and that this donated food would make a huge difference.
Many dog owners are finding this current crisis to be scary for themselves and their dogs. Not being able to provide for the dogs they love is frightening to them. Lack of food is a problem all across the country. ASPCA is rolling out this project in Miami, Los Angeles, and Asheville. The sites for the pet food distribution centers have been identified and announced in the various communities.
Coming Together In This Time of Need In Other Ways
Recently, Brooklyn’s Wyckoff Heights Medical Center needed ventilators. Thankfully, they received a generous supply of this much-needed equipment. However, the ventilators did not come with the connectors and hoses required for them to be functional.
The ASPCA found another way to help in this time of need. When Wyckoff Heights called out for help, their team of veterinarians donated 43 hoses for ventilator use. This generous gift will allow 20 more ventilators to be available for humans in need of breathing assistance.
Another Company Is Generously Helping Out As Well
Joining the ASPCA in helping communities in need is FedEx. They will deliver 2000 face masks donated by the ASPCA to the NYU Langone Hospital.
Although this current challenge to our country is a tough one, we Americans stick together. The ASPCA is ready to help, as always, man and beast. They are there for human communities as well as for the animals across our nation. Our resiliency and their generosity will help us make it through this crisis.
