Couple Sails The Sea Daily To Feed Dogs On A Deserted Island

Susan Sloan February 8, 2022

How did this coulple come to sail the sea daily to feed dogs on a deserted island? Sol-Island, a jurisdiction of South Korea, was once home to many islanders. But decades ago, people left and moved to cities on the mainland. Since that time , no humans have lived in that area, so it was a complete mystery when a couple found two dogs on the island.

It was by complete accident that this husband and wife spotted the dogs. They were on their boat visiting the archipelago when they heard barking. They were certain someone deliberately left the dogs because there was no other way to get to the island other than riding a boat. Can you imagine anyone abandoning their pets on a deserted island without food or shelter?

What was the condition of the dogs when they were found?

The two dogs on the deserted island had long coats but one was brown and the other one was black. The brown pup was also larger in size and was probably older by a year compared to the black dog.

They could have been father and daughter, siblings or just two dogs dumped by the same individual. Nevertheless, they needed to get off of the island and the only way to do that was to rescue them.

The couple sailed their boat across the sea every day for more than a week to feed the dogs. In the process, they also searched for anyone who might be willing to help.

They finally got in contact with SBS TV Animal Farm, a broadcast company that aims to educate people about animal welfare. This was the key to a successful rescue attempt.

With their connections, the production staff reached out to the Korean Animal Welfare Association and asked them for help in rescuing the dogs. Fortunately, this connection paid off as they were willing to assist in the rescue of the dogs left on a deserted island.

How they rescued the two dogs on a deserted island, Part 1

Initially, the dogs were too wary of people and always kept their distance. They made sure not to let anyone too close, not even the couple who showed them kindness by feeding them.

But deep inside, they longed for human connection. They sat by the shore and stared across the sea as if waiting for someone to return and take them back home.

Soon, the details for taking the dogs to safety were in place. The rescuers planned to catch them with a net and to gently place them in their boat for the trip to the mainland.

Although they succeeded with the smaller, black dog, they failed to secure the brown pup. As a result, the pup remaining free became even more vigilant.

Details of the rescue, Part 2

The rescuers tried to lure the brown dog by using its friend. They waited for a while and when that did not work, they asked the wife to approach the dog. Everyone was in their position, preparing to chase after the dog if necessary.

But, surprisingly, all it took was for the wife to be patient and quietly wait for him to approach her. Without much effort, she just grabbed the dog’s collar and that was it. He made no effort to escape!

At last, the dogs were safely placed into the boat. They promptly took the two dogs back to town where they were given the medical attention they needed. And once they recovered, they were placed in their forever homes.
