Small Dog Outruns Marathon Runners During Training

Small Dog Outruns Marathon Runners During Training

Susan Sloan January 11, 2022

When a small dog outruns marathon runners during training, many people are truly surprised. These same people might find it easier to imagine a large athletic dog to be capable of this feat. However, small dogs can be just as athletic, as seen in the following story.

No one seems to doubt that dogs can provide great moral support for athletes regardless of their size. Rex is a small terrier mix owned by an Olympic marathon medalist named Hwang Young Jo. As expected from an athlete’s pet, Rex is very loving and supportive member of her favorite athlete.

What might surprise you is that she also demonstrates great stamina and endurance. Rex can often outrun the other marathon trainees during practice sessions. This is something that wouldn’t be expected from such a small dog, however, she does so regularly.

What helps this small dog outrun marathon runners?

Just like any other athlete, Rex follows a strict diet. The dog food given to her has enough high quality nutrients to build strong muscles and to keep her going for the day. Even when she begs near the table where her owner eats, she doesn’t get extra food. This tough love attitude is in her best interest.

This treatment might seem harsh for some people, but it’s something that keeps Rex in great shape. After everyone has finished their meal, Rex joins them in the sleeping quarters and takes a nap along with them.

However, she often wakes up in the middle of a nap session. Somehow, she seems to sense something important has taken place. Kami has entered the room! Whenever she spots her love interest, Rex leaps  out of the bed and runs to him.

Playing with  her beloved Kami is another source of activity that keeps Rex in good shape. However, whenever they play, Kami quickly becomes exhausted and has to take a break. Kami’s owner often leaves the area promising that they will be back the next day.

It seems that all Rex really needs is three things.

  • Her special diet
  • Enough good sleep
  • Quality time with Kami

When she gets all those in a day, she trains endlessly and outruns the other athletes.

Rex’s display of athleticism that is nothing short of incredible. She’s the perfect dog for such an intense training environment. Her daily routine could easily inspire many people to stick to a strict schedule to achieve their personal goals.
