Dying Man Says Goodbye to His Beloved Dog As His Final Request
With only a few hours left to live, a UK man was granted his final wish: to see his beloved companion, Shep, one last time. The terminally ill man saying goodbye to his beloved dog was a special gift, not a usual occurrence.
Peter Robson suffered from fibrosis of the lungs, a very serious condition. His time left on this planet was very limited, down to mere hours. The thoughtful members of the Staff at Ninewells Hospital asked his family if they wanted to bring anything from home to comfort him in his last moments. The family members knew immediately the one thing that would make him the happiest.
Although there was no doubt in their minds what he would want, they were reluctant to make their request known. Dogs bring in outside germs and that is not desirable at a hospital where measures to control infection are high. They knew the request was unlikely at best.
Knowing how much it would mean to him, the family hesitantly asked if they could bring the Border Collie, Shep, to the dying man’s bedside for a final farewell. Less than thirty minutes later, they received the hospital ’s response. It was like a miracle! The hospital agreed to let the dying man say goodbye to his beloved Shep.
According to BBC, 8-year-old Shep had been Robson’s constant companion, never leaving his side since his wife passed away. Robson’s granddaughter Ashley Stevens shared, “He really thought he would never see Shep again. It was an amazing moment to see the two of them together, and Shep was so excited to see him.”
Paying tribute to the hospital, the family shared the touching moment on Facebook, “Still in shock that the wish was granted…..they went above and beyond today and made a dying man very happy.”
